Throughout the state, groups are coming together to use the power of moms to clean up Utah’s dirty air. Utah Moms for Clean Air’s first chapter was founded in Sevier County by Shanna Bastian in response to a proposed coal-fired power plant essentially in her backyard. Thus far, the Sevier MOMS (working with other local groups) have kicked butt and put the power company on the run!
Our second chapter was founded in Park City by Mary Jacquin and is now called Clean Air Park City. Clean Air Park City is less worried about the pollution in their valley today (because their local airshed is relatively clean) but rather about the state of their airshed in the future, as Park City grows. To that end, Clean Air Park City was able to convince the city council to create an ordinance banning idling within the town limits, thus making Park City the first idle-free town in Utah.
Other chapters in the works are in Logan, Utah County, Bountiful and Magna. If you are interested in being part of one of the these chapters or are interested in starting a additional chapter of Utah Moms for Clean Air please send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org — we would love to help you get started!
